The service for accessing the DUTH data network via a Virtual Private Network (VPN) offers the ability for remote users who are connected to the Internet but outside the institution’s network to connect securely to it.
The benefit of this connection is that remote users, regardless of how they connect to the Internet, can enjoy the same services they would have if they were directly connected to the University's network:
- Access to data and services that are available only through the University's network, such as subscriptions of the Central Library and the use of the institution's email servers.
- Secure access to University services, even in cases where the security of the access network cannot be guaranteed.
Once the VPN is activated, all network traffic from the user's computer is encrypted and routed through the University's network, where it is decrypted and forwarded to its final destination. The origin of the data appears to third parties as if it comes from the University's own network.
